Pokémon Go heats up the Christmas holidays, by rolling out legendary Fire and Steel Pokémon Heatran as a raid boss.
Augmented reality monster catching game Pokémon Go is celebrating wintry Christmas differently, introducing a fiery new Pokémon, Heatran as a raid boss over the holidays.
In a tweet, game maker Niantic announced that the legendary Fire and Steel-type Lava Dome Pokémon Heatran will be rolled out as a raid boss until Jan 15 next year.
Raid battles are special challenges that require groups of players to work together to defeat a boss Pokémon, to earn the chance to catch the rare creature.
More fitting with the winter image associated with the Christmas holidays, Niantic also announced that Ice-type Pokémon, including several new species, will become more common until Jan 2.
"Certain other Pokémon are also getting into the festivities – you might see holiday-ready Pokémon, such as a Pikachu wearing a festive hat," it says, adding that the Delivery Pokémon Delibird also makes a return.
There are also bonuses including double Candy for catching and transferring Pokémon from Dec 18 to 22, double Stardust when catching a Pokémon from Dec 22 to 26, double experience points when catching a Pokémon from Dec 26 to 30, and egg incubators will be doubly effective from Dec 30 to Jan 2, 2019.
