Last month, Niantic’s popular mobile game, Pokemon GO, introduced the Meltan Mystery Box. Players who linked Pokemon GO to Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu or Eevee receive an item called a Mystery Box that can be used to lure new Pokemon Meltan to their location, giving them an opportunity to catch the Steel-type creature.
For those Pokemon GO players who have already received their Mystery Boxes, there is good news. It seems that Niantic has dramatically increased the Meltan spawn rate for the Mystery Box, giving players even more opportunities to catch the Pokemon.
Earlier this week, the official Pokemon GO Twitter account tweeted that the Mystery Box’s effect has “grown stronger” and that from now on, when players use the Mystery Box, it will cause even more Meltan to go to their location than before. One player reported on social media that they have managed to catch 18 Meltans since the Mystery Box buff had gone live. Players believe that the limit is at 20 Meltan, but this is thus far unconfirmed.
The tweet led to many replies from thankful Pokemon GO players who seem especially grateful that they can now create entire armies of the shiny, metallic character. But, although many Pokemon GO players are very glad that the spawn rate of the Meltan Mystery Box has been buffed, many are also confused as to why it was buffed at all.
Few, if any players had complained about the previous Meltan spawn rate with many being satisfied at the rate at which the new character showed up. If anything, there have been complaints that Meltan isn’t yet available in the wild and that connecting Pokemon GO to Pokemon Let’s Go is the only way to get it.
Even so, plenty of players are citing the age-old adage of “don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.” Getting Meltan in Pokemon Let’s Go requires players to trade Meltan over from Pokemon GO, removing that Meltan from Pokemon GO for good. The same goes for Meltan’s evolution, Melmetal. As such, the increased spawn rate will allow players to transfer as many Meltan and Melmetal’s as they like without leaving too many empty spaces in their Pokemon GO rosters. So while it’s not the update that many asked for, it’s one that people are still appreciating.
