As part of the new update, Pokemon will be more accurately positioned based on their surroundings, while their size will increase or decrease depending on how close you are.
Even better is that players can now capture Pokemon in a number of different ways.
"AR+ mode also adds new dynamic gameplay to Pokemon GO encounters that will provide Trainers with more ways to catch Pokemon," Niantic explains.
"Trainers can now get closer to a Pokemon to receive a special capture bonus, but Pokemon are aware of the physical proximity of Trainers, so they must approach carefully as they may flee if a person comes too close too quickly.
"Getting closer to a Pokemon using AR+ has unique gameplay benefits, including being awarded the new Expert Handler bonus, which provides more XP and Stardust."
ORIGINAL: Pokemon Go fans have discovered plans to release a fresh batch of Gen 3 Pokemon.
Hardcore Pokemon Go fans have discovered more than 20 new Gen 3 Pokemon in the latest update files (via PogoDev).
Confirming earlier reports, the leaked Pokemon include Delibird, which is expected to drop as part of the Christmas event.
The new Gen 3 Pokemon are primarily of the Water and Ice variety, which would also tie in to a Christmas event.
This includes Ice type Pokemon such as Walden, Glalie, Sealeo and Snorunt.
Pokemon Go fans also uncovered data linked to special boxes that can be purchased from shops.
These Holiday Pokemon Go special boxes come with festive graphics, although the contents remain a mystery.
And according to the Silph Road, Niantic is already making tweaks to the new Battle Party system.
"This appears to revolve around replacing Pokemon who are in multiple parties across all parties at once," the post reads.
There's even a brand new Hoenn badge for players to unlock.
But perhaps most exciting of all is an update to the augmented reality functionality.
While nothing has been confirmed by Niantic, the new features should provide players with new ways to capture Pokemon.
Niantic has only just introduced dynamic weather effects, which better reflect real-world conditions.
As part of the new weather update, Pokemon are more likely to appear in certain conditions, and will be stronger or weaker if the weather is right.
