Pokemon Go developer Niantic has given Raid battles and Ex Raids a complete overhaul.
After cancelling the Thanksgiving event in favour of a Global Catch Challenge and Travel event, Niantic continues to surprise fans with fresh changes to Raids.
The headline changes are that Ex Raids will now primarily take place at sponsored locations and at Gyms found in parks. This is in order to make them more accessible to a greater number of people.
Likewise, Trainers with high-level Gym badges or players with lots of Raid experience will be more likely to receive Ex Raid invites for specific Gyms.
Niantic will also take into account popular Raid times when it schedules Ex Raids, while players can expect Stardust and Premium Raid passes when battles are cancelled.
"Over the course of the EX Raid Battle field test, much of the feedback we received was focused around how Trainers are chosen to participate in EX Raid Battles," Niantic explains.
"When the feature first entered field-testing, the system randomly selected a set of Trainers who were eligible for the EX Raid Battle.
"By taking Gym Badge level and total Raid Battles completed into account, we’re able to give Trainers who actively engage with the Gym where the EX Raid Battle is taking place and those who have invested more time into the Raid Battle feature a better chance of being invited to participate."
General Raid rewards have also been tweaked, as Niantic hands out better items to successful players.
Trainers will now receive Golden Razz Berries for completing Raid Battles, the quality of potions has been improved, Fast and Charged Technical Machines are more likely to drop, and Stardust will be awarded for participation.
But perhaps the best news is that Magikarp will return to Tier 1 Raid Battles...
Niantic said that it wants players to walk away from Raids feeling like they've earned some amazing rewards.
Pokemon Go fans can also take part in the Global Catch Challenge, where the aim is to unlock rewards by catching as many Pokemon as possible.
Fans have already unlocked the first tier of rewards, which includes double XP, 6-hour Lure modules and more Pokemon in the wild.
The next milestone will be unlocked if fans catch 1.5 billion Pokemon. Rewards include Double Stardust and even more Pokemon appearing globally.
If players capture 3 billion Pokemon, then regional Pokemon Farfetch'd will be available in all regions.
