Raikou is the strongest and most useful out of the three Legendary dogs, so players will definitely want to nab it in Pokémon Go raids.
It’ll be especially easy to catch on Saturday, June 29 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time, when it will be featured in a Raid Day. Starting at 4 p.m. on that day, all gyms (that aren’t currently hosting a raid) will host Raikou raids.
Raikou is the best electric-type attacker in the game (for now) and it’s worth having if you just want a beefy Legendary to take down any flying- or water-types.
Lucky trainers might run in to a Shiny Raikou once completing the raid. The chance for a Shiny is higher than usual, at an approximately 1/19 chance, according to Silph Road studies, though the odds are even better during raid days.
Raikou is not a particularly hard Pokémon to take down, and there’s a high chance you may have a Raikou or two already from completing Field Research Tasks from previous months. To beat it with ease, consider using ground-type moves. Here’s a set of ‘mon that’ll work:
As you can probably tell, there’s a pattern here. If you’re Pokémon has high CP and knows Earthquake, Mud Shot, and/or Mud Slap, you can probably toss them in to take on Raikou. Raikou’s arsenal of moves are only electric-type, so you don’t have to worry about it having any surprises that’ll tank your team.
Raikou does best with Thunder Shock and Wild Charge, once you nab one. Swapping out one or the other with Volt Switch or Thunderbolt is also fine if you’re short on TMs, but they do a smidgen less damage.
