Pokemon Go Fest kicks off on July 22 and looks set to offer some juicy new Pocket Monster opportunities.
It seems likely that the new challenges set out by Niantic will likely lead to the game’s first Legendary Raid.
During the day, there will be three Challenge Windows in which Trainers everywhere will work alongside those in Chicago to unlock global rewards.
And Niantic have confirmed that if trainers around the world catch enough Pokemon, a mystery challenge will be unveiled in Grant Park.
If this is successfully completed, it opens up a Global Rewards phase, which will be available to everyone the following day.
This is almost certainly the first Pokemon Go Raid for Legendary-types, with the development team teasing: “Trainers everywhere will want to grab their friends and family to help make this the biggest celebration in Pokémon GO’s history.”
However, all this excitement is kicking off next weekend, meaning fans have plenty of time to stock up on supplies.
The best way to do that is by visiting Pokemon Go Gym locations.
And it appears that Niantic have planned out a good way of boosting this before the big Pokemon Go Fest, by adding hundreds of new Gyms.
The way in which new Gyms can be added to the game is actually tied to Niantic’s other title, Ingress.
The Open Portal Recon (OPR) tool lets high level Ingress players add new points of interest to the game by reviewing submissions.
This is apparently checked regularly by Niantic, who also use this data to update the Pokemon Go map with new Gyms and Stops.
And it just so happens that the level required to review Open Portal Recon submissions has been dropped to Level 12+ Ingress players.
This means that a lot more players can now review the long list of submissions, creating a new wave of Pokemon Go Gyms and Pokestops for players.
