Aaron Kwok has made no secret about how close he is to his mother. In January, he declared during his Macau concert that he is “nothing” without his mum, and choked up when he revealed that her health had deteriorated. After news of her death made the headlines, fans and fellow stars have been sending their condolences to the 54-year-old Heavenly King, who is said to be devastated.
The fiercely-private Aaron revealed on February 25 that his mother, who reports say was 90 years old, had passed away peacefully at home at the start of the month. The funeral was held at the Hong Kong Funeral Home, while her body was laid to rest at the Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery.
Aaron, who led the funeral procession by carrying his mother’s memorial tablet, was seen photographed wearing shades and a surgical mask the entire time. His wife, Moka Fang, was also seen doing the same. Their two daughters, Chantelle and Charlotte, were also wearing masks. To avoid being photographed by the media, the girls were looked after by two domestic helpers, who shielded their faces from photographers.
Aaron once again led the ceremony as he carried his mother’s funeral portrait to the cemetery.
According to reports, there was a group of five monks who recited scriptures during a Buddhist ceremony before the funeral. Although he wore sunglasses when he led the cortege, photos of Aaron that were taken while in the car showed him looking puffy-eyed and overwhelmed with grief. Reporters noted that he was seen shedding tears while saying his final farewells to his mother.
His daughters, however, were not present for the burial as the cemetery only allows those above 16 to enter its grounds.
Aaron’s mother was laid to rest at 1.30pm after all rites were completed.
