Taiwanese singer-actor Aaron Yan’s 33rd birthday event, Aaron Yan Dear Monster Private Party, took an emotional turn after he performed his opening song and personally addressed his fans for the first time after the furor over his alleged three-timing ways.
As this marked his first public appearance since he was outed as a cheater by an ex-boyfriend, the birthday event was not opened to media coverage and organisers arranged for reporters to view it via a live stream instead.
The birthday boy (his birthday falls on Nov 20) broke down in tears when he thanked fans for their continuous support and encouragement. “Today is a pretty special birthday, it feels very real to be gathered here with all of you together. Also, I want to tell all of you [that] I love you; I believe that I will continue to be with you – and grow old with you.
“I believe that love triumphs all, thank you everyone.”
Commenting about the recent reports on his much-discussed love life and ex-boyfriends, Aaron added that a lot of fans have been showing him care and concern on Instagram lately. “My colleagues, close friends and family have given me a lot of support and encouragement too, my faith in humanity has been renewed and [it has] tide me over this strange period.”
Aaron also told fans that he will be a “completely different” person from “today onwards” but one thing about him remains the same, he said, “I am honestly facing everything that has happened to me and will continue to cherish all the love you’ve showed me for the past 10 years.”
At his birthday fan-meet, Aaron also performed Eric Clapton’s ‘Tears in Heaven’ as a special dedication to his maternal grandmother who passed away last week. “This song is a present for my grandma. Tomorrow is the seventh day since your passing, but I’m still on stage [performing] here because life does not allow me to back down.
“I’m going to lift my head, stick my chest out and learn how to love myself even more through dealing with these pain and emotions.”
