Simon Yam attended a promotional event for his new film Little Q in Hong Kong yesterday (Aug 14). It was his first public appearance since his shocking knife attack in China a month ago, and he was accompanied by two bodyguards.
During an interview, the actor shared that his arm needs to remain in a cast for eight to 10 weeks, and that his injured hand requires up to nine months of physiotherapy. He also recalled the moment he was stabbed, saying that all he could think about was how to protect himself from his assailant. Fortunately, his quick thinking and nimbleness saved him from more severe injuries.
When news of the incident made headlines all over the world, Simon received an outpouring of support from fans and fellow celebrities, which warmed his heart. Even Hollywood superstar Angelina Jolie, whom he worked with in 2003’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - The Cradle of Life, sent him a message to wish him well.
“I was so happy - she is a goddess in my eyes, and I am thankful for her concern,” he gushed. “Of course, I personally replied her to say thank you.”
As for when he intends to return to work, the 64-year-old said he wishes to spend more time with his family for now. “My company has been very understanding and will give me time to fully recover before I start taking on projects again,” he said. “I also want to be able to start exercising regularly so I can return to work in tip-top condition.”
