We’re barely into the New Year and Chinese actress Zheng Shuang has already managed to incur the wrath of netizens after a photo of her putting her feet up on a bathroom vanity started circulating the internet earlier this week.
The 28-year-old filmed currently-airing reality dating programme Meeting Mr. Right Season 2 last year, and photos of an unaired episode made were uploaded onto Weibo earlier this week. Netizens soon zoomed in on one in particular, where Zheng Shuang, who was wearing a pair of white boots, placed her feet on a bathroom counter while checking out items on the counter.
“Are you that uncultured to be doing this?” one netizen asked. “I don’t care what your reason is, but this is just too unsanitary. Where have your boots been before putting them on the counter?”
Others pointed out that as a public figure, her actions might be replicated by the impressionable younger generation, which would become an issue because of how unhygienic the action is.
In response, her fans defended the actress by sharing, “Can’t you see the cameras around her on the vanity? It was definitely something that the programme’s crew asked for. Wait for the broadcast before you speak ill about her.”
However, other netizens have also pointed out that as an established actress and a grown-up, she should be able to make decisions of her own and draw the line when she is being asked to do something that she thinks is inappropriate. One netizen added, “Would she jump off a building with no safety equipment just because the programme’s crew asked her to do it? Please put some thought into your words before blindly defending her just because you’re her fan.”
