To be honest, we never expected Dee Hsu to be such a strict parent but the Taiwanese host has made headlines time and again for her overprotective ways.
Last February, Dee, who has three daughters, Elly, 14, Lily, 13, and Alice, eight, shared that she doesn’t want her precious daughters to join showbiz because she’s worried about them not being able to take the criticism that’s dished out to celebs on a daily basis. She then made a U-Turn half a year later, declaring that she’ll support her eldest child’s dreams of becoming an actress when she grows up.
Just this week, the 41-year-old put her foot down again — this time about their love lives — or should we say, how she feels like they shouldn’t have one until they’re much older.
It all started off with Lily’s rather emo musings on social media. “I’ve been hurt too much [and] I don’t love you any longer (…) I’m an angel, and I’m not fated to be with you,” the 13-year-old wrote.
You would think that Lily was going through a breakup or something but as it turns out, she had simply copied some words from a poem. But that did not stop Dee from swooping in and commenting on the post. She wrote: “You’re forbidden to date before you turn 18. You can like someone, but if you try something behind my back, I’ll find out. Your mum is an expert on this!”
Netizens were mostly amused by what the host wrote, as they thought that Dee’s free-spirited persona would mean she’d be more open to her daughters doing what they love.
“It’s just puppy love! We all know what that feels like, so please give her a break,” one netizen commented, while a more concerned netizen wrote: “Being strict is fine, but every child reacts differently to being controlled. If you aren’t careful, they’ll end up rebelling against you and do things that the entire family might regret.”
