China’s power couple Deng Chao and Sun Li may have no trouble memorising their lines when they are in front of the screen, but they seem to have some trouble remembering what year they got married.
Last week, the couple took to Weibo to wish each other a happy ninth wedding anniversary.
Deng Chao, 41, wrote: “Teacher Sun, happy nine years!”, along with a shot of their family at sunset. Sun Li, 37, on the other hand, expressed her feelings through a heartfelt 400-word post.
“Today, we've been married for nine years… It’s not an easy thing for the two of us to live together,” wrote Sun Li, who went on to reveal their differences, like how he likes living in Beijing while she, Shanghai, and how he like spicy food while she prefers simple fare. She then ended her message by telling fans that their “love is eternal”.
Sounds all nice and romantic right? But what netizens had an issue with was that the couple had already made a show out of celebrating their ninth anniversary last year. If you don’t believe us, here are screenshots of their previous posts.
In case you’re just as confused as we are, this is what happened: The ninth anniversary which they celebrated last year on February 8 (which also happened to be Deng Chao’s birthday) referred to the date of their marriage registration in 2010, while the ninth anniversary Deng Chao and Sun Li are talking about this year was for their wedding ceremony, which took place in June 2011.
But if they’re celebrating their ninth wedding ceremony anniversary this year, shouldn’t it be their eighth anniversary last year?
The inconsistency left fans wondering if the couple did it on purpose for attention, or if they're just “really bad at remembering dates". Others netizens made fun of their “mistake”, and joked about how “embarrassed” they must’ve felt for forgetting such an important date.
After all, the couple has their hands full with work and their two kids, Hanzhi, eight, and Hanyi, six.
