Ex-TVB Star Kate Tsui’s Still Stuck In Hongkong, A Year After Retiring From Showbiz To Study Overseas
Hongkong actress Kate Tsui dropped a bombshell on everyone last December, when she announced that she would be retiring from showbiz to “lead a normal life”.
And no, before you ask, she wasn’t pregnant, or about to tie the knot. Instead, the then-40-year-old was going to further her studies overseas and pursue a PhD in psychology. (P.S: She has a master’s degree in the same field of study from the University of Hongkong).
But of course, like many, many, other people, the COVID-19 pandemic threw a hefty spanner into the works.
While Kate had initially planned to further her studies in Europe, even selling off her assets in Hongkong to make a fresh start there, it appears that she, too, was grounded by the many travel restrictions put in place.
Recently, a member of the public shared with reporters a video of the former actress shopping for skincare products in Causeway Bay.
According to that informant, they didn’t recognise Kate on first glance ‘cos she was “dressed very simply”, in a pale pink sweater and blue jeans.
The informant went on to share that the former actress “looked tired”, adding: “After she noticed that I was looking at her, she suddenly became more alert, and immediately turned and walked away. I guessed she had yet to pay for her products, but I didn’t see her again after that.”
Kate, who joined showbiz in 2004 after winning the Miss Hongkong pageant, was first signed to TVB, before leaving to join Wong Cho Lam’s management agency in 2015.
