Less than a year after EXO’s last concert on our sunny shores (and a week after they made waves at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics closing ceremony), Suho, Xiumin, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, D.O., Kai and Sehun were back once again for EXO PLANET #4 – The EℓyXiOn and to incite thunderous fangirl screams that probably rocked the very foundations of the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Kicking off the three-hour showcase at precisely 4:14pm was ‘The Eve’, a thumping, sensual song complete with loads of body rolls (because why not?). The track transitioned seamlessly into ‘Forever’, followed by the reggae-esque ‘Ko Ko Bop’.
4:26pm. After performing their breakthrough hit ‘Growl’, the members evacuated the stage save for Baekhyun and Xiumin, who then engaged in a ‘Battle Scene’ dance-off (who won, you ask? It was a solid tie). More dancing ensued, this time courtesy of Kai, whose powerful yet graceful ballet-like moves are something we could watch over and over again.
4:38pm. The lights came on to reveal that a bar had magically materialised on stage. The boys, looking very dapper in checked suits, entered the scene and played around with the props before delving into ‘Call Me Baby’, ‘Touch It’ and ‘Chill’.
4:49pm. D.O. took his place behind a mic stand and Chanyeol settled down at a piano to treat us to a lovely English rendition of ballad ‘For Life’. As usual, D.O. impressed us with his smooth-as-honey vocals and on-point pronunciation, while Chanyeol… well. Who can resist a man who knows how to tickle the ivories?
4:57pm. The group finally proceeded to address the crowd for the very first time, introducing themselves in English. Leader Suho recalled being in town with Sehun and Chanyeol not too long ago for a Skechers event, while Baekhyun praised our city’s air and chilli crab, despite the latter being a little too spicy this time.
Before moving on to the next songs, Suho issued the cheesiest ever PSA: “Please be careful while enjoying the show – for your safety, and for my heart.” Chen approved, by the way.
