Fan Bingbing has never been one to shy away from social media as she constantly updates her followers on what she’s been up to. On March 30, she revealed photos from her recent shoot with British magazine Wonderland, which led to fans to compliment her for her versatility and her ability to rock the edgy look that was required for the spread.
But they weren't so effusive with praise when the 38-year-old uploaded a video where she shared her skincare routine.
Though it's not the first time the actress has appeared sans make-up on social media, netizens were were taken aback by how "unusually gaunt" she looked. They also noted that her eyes were puffy and her lips purplish.
“Who is this? This isn’t the Fan Bingbing I remember,” one netizen wrote.
But not everyone was as kind. 'She looks ghastly. Can she please get someone to check her content before she uploads stuff next time?”
There were others who wondered if she cried before taking the video, or that her puffy eyes were a result of her having instant noodles before going to sleep. “She looks gaunt. I hope there’s nothing bad going on in her life. The past two years have been hard on her," said one concerned netizen.
The netizen was likely referring to the actress’ tax evasion scandal, which has caused irreparable damage to her career. Not only was she fined S$95mil, her workload has also decreased significantly, with advertisers and casting directors hesitant to include her in their projects for fear of negative press. In the meantime, she has launched her skincare brand, Fan Beauty, which has been met with mixed reviews.
She also called off her engagement with actor-director Li Chen last June, declaring that he will always be a friend that she can rely on in times of need.
