The teaser for the upcoming live-action Mulan movie was released last Sunday (July 7), and has since amassed 13 million views at press time. The 90 second trailer features Chinese actress Liu Yifei, who will be playing the titular character in the Disney flick.
Unlike the previous Disney live-action adaptations, which stayed true to the classic movies they were based on, Mulan will be markedly different from the original 1998 animated movie.
New Zealand director Niki Caro, who will be directing the adaptation, has confirmed that the familiar tunes from the original 1998 version will not be making an appearance in the upcoming movie.
Instead, the live-action adaptation will be more true to the original story of Mulan, focusing on the historical tale, instead of the tweaked version that the original Mulan movie showed. The live-action adaptation will be released next March.
Other that Yifei, the movie also stars Chinese actor Jet Li, Chinese actress Gong Li, Hong Kong actor Donnie Yen and New Zealand actor Yoson An.
