It’s been almost a month since the tragic passing of Taiwanese celeb dancer Serena Liu Zhen Liu and her husband Shin Lung is still struggling to cope with his grief.
Close friends of the 48-year-old recently revealed that the singer “finds it hard to even step into the living room”, as every corner of their house reminds him of Serena. As a result, he would often hide in his room, looking through their photos and reminiscing about the past.
It's been said that the number 22 was Serena’s favourite number. According to reports, Shin Lung and Serena had gone on their first date on July 22 many years ago. The couple then made it a point to celebrate their anniversary on the 22nd of every month. (In a cruel twist of fate, Serena passed away on March 22, with some reports claiming that she had died at 10.22pm or 22:22hrs.)
Shin Lung now intends to keep celebrating his anniversary. He reportedly revealed to his close friends that he plans to spend this April 22nd eating cake with his four-year-old daughter, Ni Ni.
With Serena’s passing, Shin Lung now has to take on both daddy and mummy duties. “What I'm doing now is what [Serena] used to do. I just repeat what she did, sleeping with Ni Ni, playing with her… Everything her mum did, I'm doing,” he said.
And it seems his efforts have paid off.
"My daughter said something which moved me," revealed Shin Lung. [She said] Daddy is mummy… This is the greatest compliment."
While Shin Lung previously said that he couldn't bear to tell Ni Ni about her mum's death, he is slowly coming around to it.
"Even though what my daughter said to me was a compliment, it also evoked the pain and responsibility in my heart. In the future, I will try to let her know the truth. I have to let her know slowly. After all, it’s wrong to keep it from her and it's also inappropriate to let her know everything [all at once]. It takes a little time, including for myself to become more clear-headed before I tell her. After all, she is only four years old. [To hear her say] Daddy is mummy, to me, is very heartwarming," he added.
Shin Lung has reportedly lost nine kilos in the past month and now weighs 72kg, down from 81kg. He admitted that he didn't realise he had lost so much weight and that it could be because he often forgets to eat. Shin Lung also revealed that his boss Jacky Wu often calls him to check up on him.
"He calls me to chat, and it's out of love. He has also asked me out for a meal. But I told him that even if I do go out, I would just want to hide in a corner,” said Shin Lung. “I’m taking life one day at a time and every day has been very hard. Liu Zhen had visited some schools [to enrol Ni Ni in] before her death. I respect her decision even though we have different ideas. But I don't have much opinion about schools. I’ll just wait for this pandemic to be over before I decide on a school for Ni Ni."
