Julian Cheung wants to try being his own boss

​Julian Cheung has confirmed that he has chosen not to renew his contract with Stephen Shiu Jr.’s management company. He also stated that he does not intend to join another agency as he wants to learn how to manage himself and be his own boss.

The singer-actor was speaking to the press at the premiere of the musical Papa, Can You Hear Me Sing? in Hong Kong on June 20. When asked if he has any interest in appearing in a musical production as well, he said, “Actually, a theatre company did approach me with an offer this year, but a lot of time is needed for rehearsals, so I’m unable to commit to that just yet.”

Instead, Julian is in the midst of preparing for his upcoming concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum, which will take place in April next year. He revealed that he originally planned to take care of the entire cost of production himself, but when news of the concert got out, many organisers expressed their interest in working with him.

As for how many shows he will perform, Julian shared that he was given a week-long permit, but after deducting the time needed for setting up and tearing down the stage, coupled with the fact that he does not want to tire himself out, he will likely only put on three to four shows.

“If I’m going to do even more shows than that, then I’d might as well organise a world tour so I can travel to more places,” he reasoned, adding that such a plan is on the cards. “I don’t know how much I will earn; perhaps the production cost will be very high. But in any case, I’m doing this not for the money, but to repay my fans for their many years of support.”
