Mike He Says His Wife Was Very Understanding About His 'Cheating' Scandal, And That The 'Other Woman' Has Already Apologised
Last December, Taiwanese heartthrob Mike He found himself in hot water when he was snapped getting a little too cosy with a woman who was not his wife. They even looked like they were kissing at one point.
Although the 36-year-old was quick to clarify that he and the woman were just “close friends” and that their overly-chummy behaviour was the result of drinking too much, netizens weren’t buying his excuses, and Mike’s reputation inevitably took a hit.
On February 19, Mike took the opportunity to address this scandal at the press conference for his new fantasy series Skywatcher, which is said to be similar to hit K-drama Goblin, so… does that make Mike Taiwan’s Gong Yoo?
Well, not quite. After self-deprecatingly calling himself an “uncle”, Mike revealed that Skywatcher incorporates elements from traditional Taiwanese culture, making it completely different from its rumoured Hallyu counterpart. He also quipped that he’s dressed more like Keanu Reeves in The Matrix.
When asked about his rumoured affair, Mike more or less reiterated what he said in his damage control statement: That he was out celebrating his birthday with friends and that they had a little too much to drink.
While he acknowledged that he and the woman had hugged and held hands (which everyone can see from the clip), he claimed that they never kissed. “We don’t even keep in touch that often,” he said, adding that the woman has since apologised to him in private.
Mike also said that his wife Chen Yiwen was “very understanding” about the situation, and that she didn't ask him too much about it. “It’s inevitable for things to be blown out of proportion for a public figure,” he said. “It was a birthday celebration and I was spending time with friends, so there’s no need to overthink it.”
The Devil Beside You star, who’s usually fiercely private about his personal life, shocked many when he announced in 2017 that he had married Yiwen, his high school sweetheart, and that they were parents to a baby girl nicknamed “Mei Bao”.
