Remember when it felt like Lee Seung Gi had been in the army forever? The excruciating wait for his discharge finally ended in October last year, and last Saturday night (July 7), Singapore fans welcomed him back with open arms (literally, for a handful of lucky ones) for his first fan meeting here in five years.
The two-hour event started straightforwardly enough, with the 31-year-old singer-actor-host appearing on the Zepp@BIGBOX stage with a performance of ‘Because You’re My Girl’, followed by a Q&A session with the host, where he touched on topics like his latest drama A Korean Odyssey, upcoming action series Vagabond (which will see him reunited with Gu Family Book co-star Bae Suzy) and more.
However, it was when the first interactive segment kicked off that things started to get really interesting, even laugh-out-loud hilarious at times. Three attendees were randomly picked by the cameraman (via suspenseful zooming in on the live feed) to re-enact three romantic scenes from A Korean Odyssey with the Monkey King actor himself.
The best part? One of them was a man who was just there to accompany his girlfriend (he even paid for both their tickets). He was rightly lauded for his #boyfriendgoals behaviour (how many guys do you know would do that?), and was made to recreate the sensual-yet-sweet blanket back hug from the show, except they used a towel (and they were both fully clothed, of course).
Instead of envious-sounding cries from the floor, the whole display was received with boisterous cheers and applause from a highly entertained, mostly female audience. Even Seung Gi himself noticed the spike in volume, exclaiming with a chuckle, “This is the biggest reaction I’ve ever gotten for this; I didn’t know you guys like this kind of stuff!”
