The worsening Wuhan coronavirus outbreak has made surgical face masks and hand sanitisers precious commodities, so much so that people would rather receive these items than red packets this Chinese New Year.
One such person is Hongkong actress Nancy Sit, who recently revealed how happy she was to be given face masks for CNY by her friends.
“I have friends in the air freshener and face mask business. They gave me two boxes of masks as gifts for the new year. I was so happy when I received them. Thank you very much," the spunky 69-year-old enthused in an interview at the press conference for her TVB variety show, Cantopop At 50.
Besides thanking the crew of the show for their hard work, Nancy also praised TVB’s variety department executive Sandy Yu for disinfecting the studio and microphones whenever there’s a recording. In a bid to combat the virus, Sandy also instructed the band and production staff to wear masks and has done away with having studio audience.
“Even though the epidemic has dampened everyone’s mood, I still hope to bring you joy and positive energy through this show,” Nancy smiled, adding that the rest of her projects have been cancelled.
“I didn't go out much during the new year. Because of the virus, we're all very careful and we are trying to protect ourselves," Nancy said. "I originally had plans to go overseas for work, but it had to be cancelled. The first day of staying at home was okay ‘cos I thought I could take a break. But when day two rolled around, I felt kinda bored… My daughter told me to rest and take a nap in the afternoon, but I just couldn't! I'm too used to working already. With nothing to do, I watched TV and of course, snacked. When I was trying on my outfit today, one of my assistants asked if I have been eating too much! She said my outfit looks tight (laughs).”
