Photos from an underwear brand’s ad campaign featuring 19-year-old Taiwanese actress Ouyang Nana have recently gone viral on Weibo — but not for the reason you might be thinking.
When the pictures were released, netizens began to poke fun at Nana’s oddly conservative photos, which see her either using a jacket or a sweater to hide what's supposed to be the item that they're selling: a seamless bra.
Comments include, “It’s an underwear ad that doesn’t show underwear; what easy money”, “Do they want us to use our imagination?” and “At first I thought it was an ad for a sweater.” Some also took a swipe at Nana for agreeing to participate in the shoot — and get paid for it — without being willing to show more skin.
However, there were others who voiced their opinion that underwear ads don’t always have to be sexy. “Is there a rule that models cannot wear jackets in an underwear shoot?” wrote one, while another pointed out that the styling is appropriate for Nana’s age.
It was also mentioned that the point of the shoot was to highlight the bra’s comfort, instead of just trying to be racy for the sake of it.
Come to think of it, we believe it would have caused more of an uproar if Nana had been scantily clad.
