Actor Joel Chan married his non-celebrity girlfriend, Apple, in a simple ceremony at the W Hotel in Hong Kong last Friday (Nov 1).
In the morning, the 43-year-old headed over to Apple’s house to meet his new bride and offered tea to the couple’s elders. As Joel had previously expressed his wish to keep his wedding simple, they decided to do away with a bridal party.
The events in the morning were witnessed by the couple’s close friends and family. Actors Benjamin Yuen and Derek Kok were present as well. During the tea ceremony, Joel and Apple also offered tea to Derek, with Joel promising that he’ll name Derek as the godfather of his kids in the future.
At night, the wedding party moved over to the W Hotel, where they hosted a 17-table dinner banquet. At 5pm, the newlyweds headed out to greet the media present, where they exchanged kisses at the request of the reporters.
When asked about their plans to start a family, Joel replied that he’s been busy with filming recently, and that the couple intends to let nature take its course.
“If God were to bless us with a child, we’d definitely be happy,” he concluded.
Surprisingly, Joel also shared that the couple will only be going on their honeymoon next year. “We are both busy with work,” he explained, adding that his mother, who will be joining them on the trip, is not a fan of winter as well.
Joel was previously married to designer Ponny Yeung for two years before their divorce in 2010.
