The 38th Hong Kong Film Awards was held at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

Project Gutenberg, which had been nominated in 17 categories, was the biggest winner of the night, taking home a total of seven gongs including those for Best Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay. However, the movie's star Chow Yun Fat lost the Best Actor award to Anthony Wong, who triumphed for his role in Still Human.

Kara Wai added a fifth Hong Kong Film Awards trophy to her collection with her Best Supporting Actress win for Tracey, while Ben Yuen was crowned Best Supporting Actor for his part in the same film. The Best Actress prize went to Chinese actress Chloe Maayan for her role in Three Husbands.

Also honoured at the prestigious ceremony was veteran actor Patrick Tse, who was accorded the Lifetime Achievement Award. "It's been a long time since I came here. I am thinking of retiring since I am getting old, but I am very happy to be able to see everyone again."
