SHINee’s member Key shared a touching memorial letter to the late Jonghyun on Instagram last night, who passed away on Monday (Dec 18) after an apparent suicide attempt. Key posted two images, one of him and Jonghyun and the other of a handwritten letter to his fellow bandmate, which was also pinned down by a friendship ring given by Jonghyun to him on his birthday in September. The letter, which depicts the singer’s thoughts and feelings, talks about their close friendship and how he still found the news “unbelievable” till this day. “I am sorry that you have been so lonely all this time, and I have not been able to be your source of strength. Now, I have to get used to not having you here but I will try and live a better life,” he wrote. Key also promised to look after Jonghyun’s family and to “respect and look after them as though they were my own family.” He also added, “ When I get older and we meet again, tell me I did well!,” which was something included in Jonghyun’s last letter to his good friend ‘Nine9’ (or Jang Hee-yeon) from Korean rock band Dear Cloud.
Key then attempted to end the letter off on a light note, praising Jonghyun for being the “best artiste, friend, hyung (older brother in Korea), and colleague” and reiterating the love and respect he had for him. Jonghyun’s three-day funeral concluded yesterday. Over the past few days, many fellow Korean entertainment artistes have turned up to pay their final respects and memorial ceremonies have also been set up all over the world for fans to remember their idol.
