It’s hard to believe that last night was French-Canadian superstar Celine Dion’s very first time performing – and being – in Singapore, despite blessing the world with a magnificent repertoire of songs for nearly three decades (as she reluctantly pointed out herself).
“We made it! We finally made it here!” she exclaimed to boisterous cheers, after kicking off the two-hour showcase at the Sands Grand Ballroom with ‘The Power of Love’ and ‘That’s the Way It Is’. “Don’t ask me what took so long, but I’m very happy to finally be here with all of you.”
Well, better late than never, right? Plus, the delay meant that there was an even wider range of tracks for us to enjoy, from her very first movie soundtrack (1991’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’, an absolute treat for Disney fans) all the way up to the latest one, ‘Ashes’, from Deadpool 2 (which was just released back in May).
And of course, there were all the emotional, nostalgia-inducing numbers in between, such as ‘Because You Loved Me’, ‘It’s All Coming Back to Me Now’, ‘I’m Alive’, ‘All By Myself’ and more, which were received with feverish applause and the raising of phones recording videos to show off on social media (we’re guilty of that too).
