South Korean celebrity couple Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo embarked on a new chapter in their lives two days ago, on Oct 31, when they tied the knot in a private ceremony. The wedding was held at the Shilla hotel and much anticipated photos of the couple walking down the aisle and exchanging their vows became a trending topic on the internet after they were released.

Hye Kyo wore a custom-made long-sleeved white Dior gown with elaborate neck details while Joong Ki was in a Dior Homme peak lapel tuxedo as the couple walked hand-in-hand and made their entrance into the ceremony. It was reported that even before the vows were exchanged, Joong Ki was already in tears just by looking at his bride.

The Song-Song couple then showed their respects to their respective parent-in-laws by going down to hug and bow to them before returning back to the stage to share their big kiss. Joong Ki also showed what a gentleman he was as he held Hye Kyo’s hand tightly to make sure that she was warm in the chilly weather.

Hye Kyo’s good friend and musical actress Ock Joo Hyun, sang ‘A Whole New World’ from the Disney cartoon Aladdin while the couple’s close friends, fellow actors Lee Kwang Soo and Yoo Ah In, read out letters to them. Ah In wished the couple a beautiful, joyous future together and Kwang Soo wrote a personal and touching letter for the groom.

Towards the end of the wedding, Hye Kyo gave the crowd a laugh after she failed to throw her bouquet far as she did not use enough strength. After three unsuccessful attempts, the new bride gave up and simply threw it to whoever she wanted to.

Around 300 friends and family were present for the big day with Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi being one of the first to arrive. Joong Ki’s Running Man co-stars such as Kim Jong Kook, Yoo Jae Suk, and Haha, as well as actors Park Bo Gum, Kim Hee Sun, Choi Ji Woo and Moon So Ri were also in attendance at the wedding.

Other friends of the couple in the industry were also spotted, such as Hwang Jung Min, So Ji Sub, SuperJunior’s Lee Dong Hae, Shinee’s Minho and ZE:A’s Park Hyung Sik.

Aside from the A-list guest list, another thing that caught the public’s attention was the high cost of the wedding.  The venue was said to have cost at least KRW 70 million (approximately S$85,400) and the floral decorations were reported to have cost between KRW 50 million and KRW 80 million (approximately S$61,000 to S$98,000).

The couple were also said to have prepared full course meals for their guests, costing between KRW 200,000 and KRW 300,000 (approximately S$245 to S$365) per person.

As for Hye Kyo's wedding ring, it was said to be valued at HK$31,000 (approximately S$5,400) alone but what shocked most was the speculation that her floral bouquet cost more than her wedding ring, at HK$70,000 (approximately S$12,200).

According to Korean media, the couple were said to have rejected sponsorships from other companies and instead paid for everything out of their own pockets.

The newlyweds will be heading to Europe for their honeymoon today and subsequently move into their S$11.98 million mansion when they return to Seoul.
