Super Junior’s Kangin is back in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons as reports released today claimed that he was involved in a drunken assault on a woman, said to be his girlfriend, in the wee hours of the morning.
The Seoul Gangnam Police Station received a report at 4.30am that Kangin was assaulting his girlfriend. However, there will be no further action taken against him as the police stated that the woman, presumed to be his girlfriend, does not wish for him to be punished.
Under South Korean law, in assault cases, charges cannot be pressed against the perpetrator unless the victim wishes for it to be so.
In a subsequent report, it was stated that Kangin was at a room salon (a sexual establishment likened to a high-class brothel), and that the identity of the woman, who was previously assumed to be his girlfriend, cannot be confirmed.
Label SJ, which manages him along with the other Super Junior members, have stated that they have been unable to get in touch with Kangin to confirm the allegations.
He was fined for driving under the influence in July this year, which is the second time he has been caught drink driving. The first incident happened in 2009.
Due to his DUI incident this year, he has sat out of Super Junior's promotional activities for their recently released eighth album, PLAY. Label SJ has yet to confirm whether he will be part of the group's upcoming concert tour, Super Show 7.
UPDATE: SJ Label has issued an apology, which read, “Firstly, we are sincerely sorry to have caused this incident. Kangin was at a drinking party, where he was involved in a misunderstanding with a friend and hit the person. He apologised to the victim and resolved the incident immediately.”
