Wilber Pan Slammed By Netizens For Going On Dating Show In 2017 When He Was Already Seeing His Now-Wife
Reality shows are huge in China — from buzzy talent searches like Sisters Who Make Waves to heartwarming family fare such as Where Are We Going, Dad? and to gushy dating shows like Jiangsu TV's We Are In Love, which was a spin-off of the mega popular Korean dating show We Got Married.
In We Are In Love, eligible celebrity bachelors and bachelorettes were paired up and sent to exotic locations, such as Hawaii, where they go on dates and basically romance the heck out of each other. In fact, the show did so well, it went on for three seasons.
One of the couples on the third season, which aired in 2017, was Taiwanese singer Wilber Pan and Chinese host Wu Xin. Viewers were impressed by how attentive and warm Wilber was, which they felt was a stark contrast to the bad boy persona he puts on in his music.
But now netizens are now accusing him of being “completely fake” and “scheming” while on the show. Their reason? Wilber, who announced yesterday that he has married his long-rumoured girlfriend Luna Xuan, has been with the air stewardess for a good five years. That means he was already taken when he went on those romantic dates with Wu Xin. Yikes.
Netizens have left not-so-nice comments on Wilber's Weibo, with many criticising him for “pretending that he was single when he was already dating someone”. One netizen added: “How did your girlfriend feel watching you on TV being lovey dovey with another woman?”
There were also some who took the news rather personally, with one declaring: “I always thought you were a singer, but it turns out that that your acting skills are better. I regret the years that I spent as your fan.”
Wait, what happened to "Congratulations on your marriage!"?
